  • Curator's Choice Lecture: The Cosmic Dance of Hindu and Buddhist Deities

    For Members

    Sep 13

Open to Friend, Patron, Jade Circle and Nexus members

    6:30—8 PM

    Samsung Hall

Friend, Patron, Jade Circle and Nexus members are invited to the Curator's Choice Lecture: The Cosmic Dance of Hindu and Buddhist Deities, presented by Forrest McGill. Join us for a wine reception at 6:30 p.m. and lecture at 6:45 p.m., followed by time to view the collection galleries.

More often than the sacred beings of other cultures, the gods of Hinduism and Buddhism dance. They express their creative and destructive energies through fluid rhythmic movements, setting the pulse of the universe. In benign moods, they dance gracefully in divine play. In stern moods, they dance with a force that, if fully unleashed, could destroy worlds. Sculptures and paintings depicting deities including Shiva, Krishna and the elephant-headed Ganesha, together with video clips of dance performances, will illuminate these ideas.

RSVP online or contact us at 415.581.3743 or members@asianart.org by September 6 as space is limited. Interested in the Friend or Patron level? Join online or call us at 415.581.3740.
